Fight Off Winter Aches & Pains

Some people love this time of year when the snow starts to pile up and temperatures frequently reach below freezing – the rest of us spend our time inside next to the fireplace struggling with blocked sinuses, sore muscles, and body aches. A quick trip to the local pharmacy seems like the most logical solution at first, but that idea quickly fizzles when you realize you’d have to venture out into the cold again. Sore Throat – Suffering from a sore throat? Grab some salt from your kitchen cupboard and sprinkle a bit into a glass of water. Salt acts as an anti-septic, which means gargling it will kill bacteria on the surface of the back of your throat.

Nasty Cough – There’s nothing worse than a cough that doesn’t want to go away. Place half an onion into a jar and cover it in honey. After letting it sit for 5 hours, take a tablespoon 2-4 times a day and before you know it your cough will have disappeared.

Body Aches – Epsom salt baths works wonders for muscle relaxation. Stir up a warm water bath, add two cups of Epsom salt, and relax the tension away.

Blocked Sinuses – Trying to breathe with a stuffed nose is a nightmare. If you’re looking for a fast recovery, find eucalyptus and add it to a pot of boiling water. Once you can see the steam rising from the pot, take a large towel and place it over your head while you inhale. Eucalyptus has anti-microbial properties, which open up those passage ways and allows you to breathe better.
