Three Tips for Celebrating National Pet Appreciation Week!
What better time to show your furry friend how much you love them than during National Pet Appreciation Week? Held annually during the first full week of June, this event falls on Today – June 11 in 2017. This means you have seven full days to spoil your dog or cat and make them feel more special than ever for the love and companionship they bring to your life. To add on to the celebration, American Humane has deemed the entire month of June as Adopt-a-Cat-Month! Dr. Willard’s® provides three ideas for celebrating your pets this June!
Add on to Your Family
Celebrate Adopt-a-Cat-Month by adding on to your family with a sweet kitten or grown cat. If you already own a cat, you can make their life that much better by giving them a friend. Because cats need exercise, stimulation and interaction, they greatly benefit from having another kitty in the house. If you don’t currently own any animals, consider adopting two at once, especially if they are siblings!
This way, you’ll get double the dose of benefits that cats offer, such as stress and anxiety reduction, lower blood pressure, reduced chance of stroke, lower cholesterol levels, decreased chance of heart disease and stroke, and so much more!
Instead of buying a cat from a pet shop that likely came from a pet mill, consider saving the life of a cat in need from a local shelter. There are many adoption events held in June throughout the country, and searching through an online registry, such as petfinder.com, allows you to narrow down on the location, age and breed of a cat you prefer!
Plan a Special Day
Most pets are kept in the confines of our homes and backyards, although most owners will walk their dog or take them to the dog park, the majority don’t take them out and about. During National Pet Appreciation Week, plan a special day for you and your best friend!
As dogs need exercise, why not take them on a hike or spend a day at the beach? As the weather is warming up around the country, it’s a perfect time to throw a frisbee or even run into the ocean with your canine companion!
Because dogs need social interaction just as cats and humans do, consider planning a doggy play date. Get together with your friends and their dogs, or arrange a play date through a local trainer or social media site. Your dogs may get along so well, this date may lead to regular get togethers, giving you and your furry friend something to look forward to!
Concentrate on Their Health
Another very important way to show your appreciation to your pets this week and all year long is to learn ways to improve their health. Exercise and interaction is one way to boost their mental and physical health; however, you also need to focus on what you feed and put on your pet’s coat to make sure you are not harming their health!
Did you know that many traditional pet food brands contain by-products, chemicals, fillers, dyes and toxins that can make your pet sick and shorten their lifespan? You should never pick up a package of pet food at the store without first reading the list of ingredients and researching what’s inside. Some items to watch out for in the ingredient list include Ethoxyquin, food dyes, rendered fat, grain meals, by-products, BHA and BHT.
Dr. Willard’s® makes a line of pet products that improves your pet’s physical and mental health. If you are familiar with our brand, you know that we take safety extremely seriously, and that all of our products are made with all natural ingredients without any harmful toxins.
